The hype has died off but the memory lingers on. Variable Data Printing was supposed to be the greatest thing since whatever the last greatest thing was. But it does play a role in multi-media and targeted campaigns. The problem has been a lack of standards and common operating procedures. Hear Frank Romano from RIT, who coined the term, talk about VDP and its application today.

Frank Romano, Professor Emeritus, School of Print Media, Rochester Institute of Technology
Frank Romano’s career has spanned over 40 years in the printing and publishing industries. He is the author of 40 books, editor of the International Paper Pocket Pal, contributor to major encyclopedias and dictionaries, and the author of numerous articles.
His books include the 10,000-term “Encyclopedia of Graphic Communications” (with Richard Romano), the standard reference in the field. His books on InDesign and PDF workflow were among the first in their fields. He has authored most of the books on digital printing.
Frank has founded eight publications, serving as publisher or editor or both for TypeWorld now Electronic Publishingand many others. His columns appear monthly in Electronic Publishing and the Digital Printing Report.
Frank has conceptualized many of the workflow and applications techniques of the industry and is now involved in a major study of the future of information dissemination.
He has been quoted in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Times of London, USA Today, Business Week, Forbes, and many other newspapers and publications, as well as on TV and radio. Most recently, he has partnered with InfoTrends/CAPV to develop a service that will provide strategic information for the printing industry.
