Fellow marketers,
Welcome to the NEDMA 2007 Annual Conference, "Staying Current in a Lightspeed World."
If you're remembering that last year's theme was "Brave New World," and the two years prior were "What's New" and What's Next," you may be wondering if there's anything truly new or different about this year's conference.
It's a fair question. And I think the answer is very simple.
In years past, our speakers talked about new media, new creative formats, and advances in printing and production techniques. But one thing remained the same. As marketers, we were in control of the conversation. We initiated the dialogue, we shaped it, and we defined its limits.
Those days are gone.
As direct marketers, we have now reached the logical - but often scary - conclusion of all our evolving efforts to get closer to customers, prospects and donors. Leading marketers are part of a true dialogue now, and as often as not, those same customers, prospects and donors are the ones dictating when, where, how and if they engage.
Don't believe it? Fine. Continue to use only your traditional channels and formats of communication. Ignore the rise of social media. Keep thinking that companies like Karmaloop, with its one 'real' store, virtually no marketing budget, and 300,000 rabidly loyal customers, are a passing phase. See how long it takes for your competitors to pass you by, or your clients to go elsewhere for advice and services.
Or, join us on June 13-14 at the LaCava Center at Bentley and start to understand the revolutionary changes assaulting our industry, and how you can harness those changes to remain relevant, effective and profitable.
I'll look for you there.
Best regards,
Gary Lubarsky
